Half way along the causeway leading to the old town is a strange windmill :-

It proved impossible to find anything out about its history/purpose.

Nessebar is quie a small island --about a mile in length -- but It`s reckoned that it had the highest number of churches per person in Bulgaria at the time of the 2nd Bulgarian Empire with over 40 in total. I think there are currently still 13 . They have a very distict style :-

Along the Black Sea coast grow these strange but beautiful trees :-
Image
Strange because the flowers grow straight from the trunk and along the branches:-
Image
You see them in gardens but they also grow wild all over the place :-

I thought we`d been nearly everywhere but we`d never seen them before either -- not even in Madeira in Spring or summer. The Black Sea coast is quite nice but there are still remnants of the soviet era :-

Here on the outskirts of Bourgas there are no road names or street names --just area letters and block numbers.

Fortunately that`s the excepetion & further inland lues a picturesque countryside. Its well worth hiting a boat & taking a peaceful trip up the river Ropotamo :-

There was an abundance of kingfishers and turtles. Unfortunately the kingfishers were far too fast to photograph -- but not so the turtles:-

And finally -- Further down the Black Sea coast towards the Turkish border is another lovely old town. Sozopol :-
